The woman who wants you to glow; meet Kathryn Danzey

'You know what’s overwhelming? When somebody gets in touch and says, “Your products have changed my life. I feel better about myself. I've got more energy. I look at myself in the mirror and I see me again.” That’s overwhelming,’ says Kathryn Danzey. Even after decades as a trailblazer in the wellness industry, the Rejuvenated founder never stops being grateful for the chance to help people live better lives.

She hadn’t set out to build a business that would change the landscape of the wellness world. When she first launched Rejuvenated’s Collagen Shots in 2003, Kathryn thought that at best, her friends and family might be interested. But over the past two decades, her multi-award-winning products have gained widespread acclaim as being some of the best in the industry.

That’s not to say that growth happened by chance. Kathryn is hyper-qualified to lead the way in nutritional beauty, having spent years dedicating herself to the study of holistic health, aesthetics and cutting-edge scientific advancements.

For her, this mission is vital. ‘There are very few people – particularly women – who are actually confident in their own skin,’ she says. ‘If you can help somebody just feel positive, give them that inner glow, then that is wonderful. It means so much.’

A holistic history

Kathryn grew up in Sheffield in the 1960s and early 70s. She was an athlete and swam competitively – sometimes doing training laps of 10 miles a day. Like everyone at the time, she fuelled her elite sports endeavours with instant mashed potato and frozen dinners – a fact that she’s shocked about now. Although her mum cooked wholesome, nourishing meals, Kathryn often reached for the quick, processed options after training. In a world of Cadbury’s Smash and Findus, she was drawn to wellness - even if the path there wasn’t always perfect.

Her interest was piqued, in part, because she struggled with sensitive skin which led her to explore natural remedies. Without the well-studied retinol, acids and supplements of today’s skincare, she found herself looking for holistic methods to help her skin. 'At the time, there was only the “alternative” side of things,’ she says.

She found peace and inspiration in the city’s only natural health shop. 'I spent all the earnings from my Saturday job on aromatherapy oils, natural face creams and herbs,' she says. 'The world just fascinated me. Every one of my friends and family thought I was totally mad – holistic health was just associated with the hippie scene. I didn’t really fit into that – I just wanted to look after myself.'

Her passion for wellness was more than a passing interest. After finishing school, Kathryn went on to formal training in beauty and aesthetics in London. ‘It was way before the technology we have today, so it was very simple lessons. We learned how to do cold cream facials and massages,’ she remembers.

Not satisfied with surface-level treatments, and knowing there was more to learn, Kathryn kept investigating. Her drive led her to train in aromatherapy with the woman who originally brought the practice to the UK, as well as reflexology and acupuncture.

The new approach

Her curiosity has never left her and informs Rejuvenated today. Passionate about combining her understanding of nutrition and her love of the beauty industry, Kathryn knew that she wanted to bridge the gap between inner health and outer glow while staying at the forefront of scientific developments.

These passions coalesced in the 1990s when she discovered the potential of lasers. At the time, it was a revolutionary concept. 'It was just incredible that there were machines that could permanently reduce hair and rejuvenate the skin. When I first heard of it, I thought it was ridiculous, but then I saw the science behind it and it was absolutely cutting edge,' she says. She went on to learn how to use the machines with the president of the French Dermatological Society.

It was a turning point. 'I knew that a treatment like this would need to be paired with holistic nutrition to support the skin to recover, so that’s what I spent years doing: connecting everything in a 360-degree programme,' she says.

For years, Kathryn dedicated herself to training clinicians – including Harley Street Doctors – on lasers, not only in the technical aspects but also with how to use them to help clients from the inside out. As nutritional science began catching up with the aesthetic world, Kathryn encouraged clinics to incorporate supplements alongside their treatments.

'I was always looking for ways to help people to live a healthier, longer life. But it still felt like consumers just didn’t really get it. So I streamlined it all by making Rejuvenated – first with the Collagen Shots, then widening the range to hydration and cellular health,' she says.

Future mission

Kathryn created Rejuvenated because she couldn’t find another brand that delivered the right products in the right dose – but also because health was complicated. It still is: 'I think it’s becoming more and more confusing. When there's so much information out there, helping people to understand the healthier choices is hard but important,' she says.

She firmly believes that knowledge empowers people to make healthier choices for their bodies. And her guiding principle? 'Health is never one thing. One treatment, supplement, tool, whatever it is, it can’t do everything. If you learn to combine your lifestyle with treatment, you dramatically enhance your results,' she says.

This message is more important now than ever. While our understanding of wellness and longevity continues to expand, so too does the range of cosmetic treatments available. With the rise of injectables and non-invasive procedures, many women are opting for quick fixes that enhance appearance without necessarily improving skin health or holistic wellness.

She gets it: looking good matters. But giving someone their confidence back is more than skin deep. 'If our cells are healthy, then our organs are healthy and the body is healthy too, and that creates the glow and confidence that changes everything,' she says.

This feels a long way from where she was in the 70s, exploring the aisles of the natural food store. 'I feel very privileged to have seen the ways that the beauty industry has developed and how new treatments have come to the fore, and I feel very privileged to be at the forefront of that,' she says.

Kathryn’s now a thought leader in the wellness space – her personal clients have included leading luxury magazine editors and her products fill the pantries of A-listers. And the ways in which she continues to educate and innovate keep evolving.

So what does she think we’ll be doing next in the name of health? 'I hope we see better campaigning and support by governments to improve education and awareness about nutrition and lifestyle,' she says. It’s a modest answer for someone who could be jumping onto the next buzzy trend, but for Kathryn, real wellness includes everyone. 'We have so much understanding of the science – that isn’t what we need to develop,’ she says. ‘Communicating that to the masses so more people can make healthier choices is the way forward.'

Balance also matters – and Kathryn is proof that you can focus on wellness while still having fun. 'Don't get me wrong, I love a glass of wine – actually, I prefer a glass of champagne. I also wouldn’t suggest everyone cuts out their favourite foods,’ she says. ‘These things are fine in the broader context of a healthier lifestyle, but we shouldn’t rely on them too much.’

Spreading the word of sustainable, science-backed wellness has always been her goal. And as the Rejuvenated story continues, she’s still guided by the same truth – helping everyone understand that true health means glowing from the inside.
