Top skin care tips for a glowing complexion this Christmas

Hormones, Health, Skin, Science

As we skip into the festive party season, many of us will be burning the candle at both ends this winter.

From dashing around stuffy stores for last-minute shopping to endless parties, cocktails and canapes – and let’s not forget the chocolates! – Christmas can leave us feeling anything but sparkling.

Yet, we don’t have to ensure dull, grey skin for the next few weeks – a jam-packed festive season doesn’t need to show on your face! If you have plenty of parties coming up and you want to look and feel your best in your glittering party outfit, then all you need is a little skin care know-how.

Here are our top winter skin care tips for maintaining a healthy glow to take you from Christmas parties right into the New Year…

Limit Alcohol Intake

For many of us, the party season equates to endless alcohol – think fizzing champagne to sugary cocktails and all kinds of mixers in between. We would never suggest ditching alcohol during the Christmas period – after all, life is there to be enjoyed, especially with your loved ones.

However, try to cut back on alcohol intake as much as possible. Unfortunately, too many drinks can dehydrate the skin, leaving us with a very un-festive grey tinge. If it’s not possible to cut back on drinks, then drink a glass of water in between every alcoholic drink – this has the added benefit of limiting painful hangovers, too!

For the ultimate hangover cure, our H30 Hydration supplement helps to rehydrate the body from the inside, out – starting with the cells themselves. Simply sip on our Hydration supplement after a night out, or the morning after the night before to avoid those dreaded headaches… Shop H3O Hydration.

Give the Skin Some TLC

Once the party is over and our feet are sore and our eyes tired, the last thing we want to do is take off our make-up. Yet, unfortunately, this is a no break rule – no matter how tired we are, it’s important to remove all traces of make-up before snuggling into the duvet. It will help to minimise New Year breakouts, too!

For this reason, now is the perfect time to invest in a quality cleanser. An oil-based cleanser is perfect for this time of year, as it will help to add moisture and glow to dull, dry skin. On top of this, a gentle exfoliator used once a week can help to remove dead cells for a brighter, fresher appearance.

We also swear by skin-boosting facial mask that you can pop on in between parties – something which helps to restore the glow and soothe any alcohol or sugar-inflamed skin can work a treat!

Beauty Sleep

While dancing until the early hours may seem like a great idea at the time (we blame it on the cocktails…), it’s important to get plenty of sleep so that we look and feel our best come Christmas. Try to prioritise a good night’s sleep wherever you can, getting at least eight hours.

It also helps to take a supplement which can work its magic as you sleep, meaning you wake to brighter, fresher and more youthful skin. Our handy H30 Night Capsules help to give you more beautiful skin. They contain a unique blend of potent herbs and antioxidants with super hydration, offering the perfect nutritional support for healthy skin. In particular, Night Repair is rich in calcium, magnesium, vitamins A, B, C, D & E and antioxidant-rich pine bark, grape seed extract, astragalus and astaxanthin. Find out more on H3O Night Repair.

Diet

Of course, it isn’t just our skin that’s affected by the party season – our bodies are often left feeling the effects of Christmas, too!

After weeks of alcohol, sugar and excess food, many of us will be feeling bloated in our “every day” clothes. As well as embracing exercise and piling plates with whole foods and rainbows of fruit and veg (in particular, try to avoid sugar wherever possible– this will only add to inflammation in the body), cutting back on wheat can also help. This is because wheat – along with refined sugars – ferment to cause gas, leading to that dreaded swelling.

If you struggle with a sore tummy, then sipping on aloe vera juice can work wonders to calm and soothe. When we are feeling worse for wear, we also like to treat both our skin and body to a calming morning juice of beetroot, cucumber, carrot and ginger – beetroot works to flush out toxins and purify the blood, while cucumber is full of water for extra hydration. Meanwhile, ginger is perfect at easing inflammation and also helping to fight off bugs and germs if you feel rundown.

Highlight

And, if all else fails, pull out the glittering highlighter for some added sparkle! We love adding a touch of liquid highlighter to our skin at this time of year to help us to fake that summery, youthful glow. We like to apply ours to the high points of the face (brow bones, cheekbones, bridge of the nose), as well as dabbing into the corner of the eye for an instant, eyes-wide-open effect.
