How to hydrate skin and get a post-summer glow

Skin

As our summer slowly draws to a close, now is the perfect time to glance in the mirror and re-evaluate our skin – especially if we want to enjoy that plumped-up, dewy glow all year round.

Over the last few weeks, many of us will have jetted off to sunnier or more tropical climes. We’ll have enjoyed turquoise waters and snowy white beaches where we’ve lounged on sunbeds and enjoyed sizzling temperatures. While this is great for that much-needed R&R, the sun is never good for our skin.

Since you landed back on UK shores, you may have started to wonder how you can repair the damage done by the sun. Perhaps you want to restore hydration, or get that glow back.

However, no amount of lotions and potions – no matter how expensive – will work if our skin is dehydrated rather than simply dry. Products alone, no matter how eye-watering the price tag, cannot help us turn back the clock, nor can they give us total radiance. For that reason, we need to work out whether or not we are suffering from dry skin, or if it runs deeper than that and our faces are dehydrated.

The difficulty here is that dry and dehydrated skin share very similar symptoms, but are obviously caused by different issues. Dry skin tends to be triggered by too little sebum, whereas dehydrated skin is caused by too little water, or a lack of cellular hydration.

The Role of Cellular Hydration:

To truly understand how to hydrate your skin, we need to look at hydration from within.

When our cells are truly hydrated, it triggers a whole host of reactions to place the body in healing mode. This, in turn, helps it to protect itself and to heal and repair tissue. Cellular hydration can also encourage the release of growth hormones and lead to DNA repair, as well as decreasing acidity in cells and improving our fat-burning potential.

From a skin perspective, cellular hydration is one of the main keys to good health and staying young. Cells can only perform their endless, dizzying number of tasks if they are correctly hydrated. Yet, drinking water may only increase the amount of water found outside the cells.

Yet, unfortunately for us, it’s not as simple as upping water intake. Although, for optimum health, we do need to ensure we are sipping on two litres a day, and avoid dehydrating coffee and alcohol wherever we can, reaching for more H2O is not the complete answer. In fact, your skin is the last organ to benefit from thirst quenchers.

Instead, we need to be looking at hydrating our cells from the inside, out.

How to Boost Skin Hydration Levels:

Ionic minerals can help to restore the balance and skin feeling fresh and hydrated all day-long. In fact, if we enjoy a healthy balance of ionic minerals, they can help our bodies to balance the water we drink each day – and allow our skin to benefit! A balance of ionic minerals means that extracellular water (the water you drink every day!) can cross the cell membrane to give healthy, hydrated cells from the inside, out.

H30 Hydration

If you are looking to up your skin hydration levels, then the perfect first step is to try our award-winning H3O Hydration drink. This popular formula provides plenty of minerals and ions key in hydration for skin and health. It’s simple and easy to take – you just enjoy one to two scoops a day alongside a glass of water.

Drinking this supplement allows you to fill your body with specific nutrients to enhance water absorption – and that means the gorgeous skin you always wanted! The minerals in H30 are ionic and hypotonic, which help our skin to absorb that bit more water. Our special formulation consists of potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium lactate and sodium citrate.

We’ve also included calcium to help with cell division and specialisation, magnesium to reduce tiredness and fatigue, and vitamin C to prevent oxidative stress.

H30 Hydration even contains the so-called fountain of youth, Hyaluronic Acid, to help us all to get that glow! Hyaluronic acid is known to hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water and provides a cushion filler between the cells, creating plumped-up, more youthful skin.
