Top tips for glowing skin this Christmas

Skin

It’s hard to believe that we are slowly edging towards Christmas.

In just a few, short weeks, the cocktails will be poured, the trees will be glittering and the party season will be firmly upon us.

However, with the endless parties comes that pressure to both look and feel our best so that we sparkle in our beloved LBD.

Unfortunately, for many of us, the winter months are a difficult time to look our best. The grey, frosty days can leave our skin looking anything but lustrous and youthful, and it can take a toll on our hair and bodies, too!

Yet, with just a little know-how, we can both look and feel our beautiful at Christmas parties this year. Here are our top tips on getting party ready for the festive season…

Collagen

Truly radiant, fresh and glowing skin cannot be faked – it starts from within. Thankfully, there are a few magic tips to help you find that natural glow!

The harsher months are a perfect time to try out beauty supplements for a skin boost, particularly collagen. Our multi award-winning Collagen Shots Collagen Shots contain 10,000mg of hydrolysed collagen, along with Hyaluronic acid (AKA the fountain of youth), vitamins, zinc, copper and the super antioxidant acai berry. Taking our collagen daily can help to give you more radiant and youthful skin, delay early signs of ageing and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and boost hydration, elastin and natural collagen levels. It can even help to strengthen brittle nails and dry and damaged hair, too.

Hydrate

For noticeably brighter, plumped-up skin, staying hydrated is key. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day (and, yes, try to avoid dehydrating caffeine and alcohol, too!), and use slightly richer day and night creams along with a nourishing oil or serum during the winter (a facial SPF, even during the winter, is a must too). However, to really boost moisture within the skin, you have to work from the inside, out.

It’s worth considering supplements which help to nourish from the inside, and which also boost Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF) on the outer layer of skin. Our H30 Hydration powder H3O Hydration can be easily added to drinks and helps the body to transfer water and nutrients across the gut wall. Thanks to this clever supplement, these nutrients will be in the form of balanced, ionically-charged trace minerals (electrolytes), which can then act as a catalyst for all the vitamins and other nutrients our bodies need for tip-top health.

Our Hydration supplement contains key electrolytes such as magnesium, copper, calcium and sodium, which are also essential to keep fluid levels within the body at optimum levels, ultimately working to boost that NMF and keep our skin healthy.

Try a Humidifier

The winter months are harsh on the skin as we are hit from all different angles – a lack of vitamin D and sunshine (although supplementing can help with this!), the endless heating in our homes and offices, and then the frosty weather.

As well as drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated, a humidifier placed in the home can help to keep skin fresh and glowing – especially when the central heating is on! If you’re feeling brave, taking a cooler or even cold shower can also help to keep our skin healthy and hydrated. It can help to defrizz the hair, too!

Brighten

A dull complexion will never be the best accessory for a sparkling party outfit – and no amount of highlighter can undo it, although this always helps!

Throughout the winter, it’s crucial that we get rid of any dead skin cells through gentle exfoliation. Try to find the perfect facial and body exfoliator (you want to find one which isn’t harsh or abrasive on the skin), which will instantly help to reveal brighter skin. It may also be worth trying a glycolic acid or a retinol (long gone are the days where retinols caused irritation and redness – there are now many nourishing versions on the market), or even both, for softer, more youthful skin.

Care for the Lips

When the mistletoe is in sight, we mustn’t forget about our lips, too!

To avoid chapped and flaky lips, try a balm that is made from natural oils to offer protection and condition. The more commonly-used petroleum jellies can actually do more harm than good, ultimately leading to even more soreness and chapping. You may also like to try a special lip exfoliator to slough off any dead skin, too.

Rainbow Diet

Eating a rainbow of fruit and veg is one of the best things we can do for our skin! Each different colour, from orange carrots which are full of beta carotene to red tomatoes which contain plenty of the antioxidant lycopene, contains different vitamins, minerals and goodness.

To nourish from the inside, out, try to embrace rainbows of food. I also suggest eating plenty of healthy fats such as avocados and nuts (or even an omega-3 supplement), which condition the hair and skin, leafy greens to detoxify and flush out any nasties, and plenty of lean protein and complex carbs, which will help to give us the energy needed to sparkle and party hard!
