How to calm summer skin irritations

While we love the longer days of summer, the increased heat can lead to skin inflammation and unsightly rashes. Some skin eruptions can be caused by heat or sweat such as eczema, rosacea and heat rash.  The hot weather and humidity can lead to flare ups that are uncomfortable and may even become sore and weepy.

Warm sunny days, a dip in the sea or blocked pores can cause unsightly summer rashes and leave us feeling itchy and uncomfortable.

Here are the top skin irritations that our customers have reported.

Discover our skin calming hero Skin Perfecting Complex.

Heat rash or prickly heat

Most of us have suffered from this condition at some time. Heat rash occurs when sweat glands become blocked to prevent sweat from being released. This results in small, itchy bumps that prickle as they burst.

Wear cool, loose fitting cotton clothing. Use a gentle exfoliator in the bath or shower and use a body wash with tea tree oil to cleanse the skin and soothe irritation and itching.

Eczema

Some people find their eczema is worse in winter but for others the warm and dry conditions of summer trigger the condition. Seasonal allergens, sweating, swimming, and the increased exposure to the sun can cause the onset of eczema.

Use unperfumed products, take cool showers and moisturise when the skin is still damp. Use a mineral sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. They keep the skin cooler and are less likely to cause irritation. A new biologic treatment has been developed to help manage eczema symptoms. Biologics are in their early stages of development, they inhibit chemical mediators in the immune system to prevent them creating an allergic response. They can however leave your immune system

Acne

Several studies show that there is a link between the summer months and acne break outs. There’s a very simple reason for this, it’s related to increased oil production, sweating and the clogging up of pores. Certain sunscreens are thicker and can contribute to the problem. During this time of year most people want to exfoliate and wash their skin more frequently. Opt for serums and a light moisturiser.

Folliculitis

Every hair on our body grows out of a follicle and the term folliculitis is used to describe infected follicles. Infected follicles feel sore and itchy. Avoid hot tubs and whirlpools if you are unsure of how clean they are as many people get folliculitis from them. Wear cool, loose fitting clothing.

Unexpected Dermatitis

A splash of lime or other citrus fruits and certain plants can cause dermatitis at this time of year. The compound, furocoumarin, within limes reacts with UVA light causing a burning rash. The condition has been termed margarita dermatitis due to limes being a key ingredient in the cocktail.

Your skin may blister locally and become itchy. Rinse any juice off your skin immediately to avoid irritation.

This is where Skin Perfecting Complex by Rejuvenated comes to the rescue. Skin Perfecting Complex is a vegan collagen booster with the added benefits of skin calming botanicals that work synergistically to soothe and calm those summer irritations.

Sea buckthorn berry takes a multi targeted action against problem skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce swelling and redness, it has a high content of omega-3 to hydrate the skin.

While a stinging nettle leaf can give the skin a nasty rash, in its dried form it acts as a natural antihistamine to alleviate irritations. Chlorellaashwagandha and MSM offer further calming benefits.

The formula also includes probiotics to support a healthy immune system which in turn promotes glowing skin.
