This game-changing new supplement is the perfect way to support healthy metabolism
If you’re looking to help manage your weight and feel less sluggish, our new supplement Re-set is a pioneering formula that’s packed with essential herbs and active ingredients. Basically it’s everything to help boost your metabolism, manage stress and stabilise blood sugar levels. Read on to learn more about how it works and how you can benefit from taking it as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Ever wondered why metabolism is important?
Often described as ‘fast’ or ‘slow’, the metabolism basically the rate our bodies consume energy (and burn calories). Our metabolism is made up of all the chemical processes that happen to keep your body alive and all its systems ticking over, such as breathing (your respiratory system), digesting food (your digestive system) and cell reproduction and repair (part of your circulatory system).
All these processes require energy, which is where your rate of metabolism (or metabolic rate) comes in to it. It requires around 40%-70% of your body’s daily energy consumption, depending on your lifestyle, body size and age.
If your metabolism is too slow, you can gain weight more quickly and feel sluggish. If it’s too fast you can find it difficult to gain weight and find yourself constantly hungry despite having a healthy diet.
Muscle cells require more energy to maintain than fat cells, so people with more muscle than fat tend to have a faster metabolism. This is why as we age, our metabolism slows down and we tend to gain weight more easily, because our muscle mass depletes. Genes are also said to play a role in our metabolism speed, although this hasn’t been fully discovered yet.
How to improve metabolism
Diet and supplements like our Re-set capsules help to support and enhance metabolism as part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Among its star ingredients is chromium, which works to enhance our insulin function to help maintain normal blood sugar levels and enable the body to burn fat at a healthy rate.
Another metabolism hero ingredient we’ve included is iodine for thyroid health – as it’s thyroid hormones that control our metabolic rate, which is why those with hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) tend to have a slow metabolism and are more prone to weight gain.
And if you really want a metabolism booster, your best friend is exercise – try to get at least 30 minutes a day. Cardio exercise is great for this, as it increases the heart rate and can include swimming, walking, spinning or a dance class. If you’re worried about losing muscle mass with age, try weight-training activities such as a kettle-bell class or Pilates.
Now, let’s talk stress …
As we know stress takes its toll on the body in lots of ways. It drains us of energy, disrupts sleep and triggers a ‘flight or fight’ response in your body, producing large amounts of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which causes your insulin levels to shoot through the roof, and your body responds to by storing fat. Your blood sugar then also drops, leaving you craving foods that are high in sugar and fat (we’re all familiar with ‘stress eating’!) which obviously doesn’t bode well when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight. A 2015 study conducted by researchers at Ohio State University found that stress was linked to a slower metabolism in women too. So what can we do to combat these effects?
Taking adaptogens for stress
Ever heard of adaptogens? This slightly technical-sounding name has been everywhere over the past few years and for good reason. Rather than just another wellness fad, more and more people have been using adaptogens for stress, anxiety, and weight management, which is why we’ve included them in our new Re-set capsules. Adaptogens, otherwise known as adaptogenetic herbs, have been used in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years and help support the body when you’re stressed.
When we’re in a stressful situation, our bodies go through a three-step process: alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. During periods of stress, adaptogens work to support energy levels and cushion the after-effects stress has on the body, by helping to modify and regulate hormone production. This also helps to prolong the ‘resistance phase’ so that we can get through a stressful situation without crashing and burning. (They work in a similar way to a double-shot espresso, but without giving you the caffeine jitters!)
Re-set features a popular adaptogen herb: gynostemma pentaphyllum (also known as Southern Ginseng). In China, it’s known as the ‘immortality herb’ as natives of the Guizhou Province who drink it in their tea are known to live long, happy lives!
All about ATP
Studies suggest that Gynostemma may increase something called ATP (adenosine triphosphate) – which is an energy-carrying molecule that obtains energy from food molecules that have been broken down in the gut, and delivers it to cells so they can function properly. Think of it as akin to the person who pumps petrol in your car – without them, your car wouldn’t have the fuel it needs to run properly, and your cells work in a similar way! The result? You’ll feel more energised, with less mood dips and hunger pangs – plus your skin and hair will look all kinds of radiant!
Another stress-busting ingredient we’ve included in Re-set is chlorogenic acid (green coffee extract). If you’ve been Googling things like “how to boost my energy level without caffeine”, this might be what you’re looking for. It will give you similar benefits to your daily Starbucks run, without the energy crash afterwards! It’s also good for curbing stress-related hunger pangs and sugar cravings, as it helps maintain blood sugar levels and regulate the appetite.
An additional herb we’ve added for weight control is white mulberry leaf, which is rich in flavonoids – a potent anti-inflammatory to promote a healthy gut and immune system, while its high levels of magnesium, potassium, phosphorous and calcium are crucial for bone strength and better sleep quality. It’s also believed to be essential for maintaining healthy blood sugar levels – key for diabetes prevention and other related illnesses.
