7 simple steps for a gentle spring detox

Spring is a time of renewal, we feel brighter and lighter as the days draw out and flowers begin to unfurl for a new year. A gentle detox can help to lift winter sluggishness and prepare you for more pleasant temperatures ahead. Here are some simple spring detox tips to help you on your way, take one at a time to introduce into your day. You may choose to stay with some throughout the year.

Spring Detox Tips:

Start your day with oil pulling

This isn’t for everyone but it is an excellent way to cleanse and detox the mouth. Plaque on the teeth isn’t dissolved by water, it’s fat-soluble.

Take one tablespoon of virgin coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for around 15 minutes and spit it out. It does feel strange initially but try it for a week first thing in the morning, you’ll soon notice a difference.

Scrape your tongue

Another excellent method of reducing bacteria in the mouth is to use a tongue scraper before you brush your teeth. Digestion begins in the mouth and if you have a coating on your tongue it may reflect toxins in the digestive system.

Drink warm water

Start your morning with a glass of warm water. I tend not to drink it with the lemon or lime juice as dentists believe it causes damage to the enamel of teeth. You may want to substitute with H3O Hydration a perfect way to start your day.

You could use a straw to sip the water so it bypasses the teeth or drink it all in one go so that the acid is in contact with the teeth for less time.

Dry brush your skin

Skin is an organ of elimination, dry brushing helps to clean pores and increase blood circulation. Dry brush before you shower or bathe using a natural loofah or bristled brush. Start at the soles of your feet and work up towards the heart, then start at the hands and work to the armpits.

A long handled brush makes brushing the back easier, work in a clockwise direction over the abdomen to follow the movement of the colon. Brush for around 5 minutes, if your skin is sensitive use a soft brush.

Bathe in Epsom or Himalayan salts

Taking a warm bath with a cup of either Epsom or Himalayan salts helps to draw out toxins and eliminate cellulite.

Self massage

On the days that you don’t body brush use a warm oil to massage the entire body to aid detoxification and stimulate the lymphatic system.

Introduce herbs and spices to aid digestion

Fennel, cinnamon, ginger and mint all aid digestion and can be taken as teas or added to foods.
