Collagen, Healthy Ageing, Skin

Stretch marks are part of what makes us unique and beautiful, they tell our body’s story and should be worn with pride. But there are times that some of us would rather we could be improve the general appearance of them, so here we share some tips to help you on your way.

What exactly are stretch marks and what can you do to prevent them and minimise the appearance?

Stretch marks appear as lines on the surface of the skin and typically more women than men suffer from them.

They are formed when skin stretches suddenly, the dermis tears is composed of strong fibres but it at times of pressure it can in places to allow the blood from tiny broken blood vessels through the skin. This initially shows as red/purple lines, the blood vessels contract and gradually fade so the lines just show as faint silver, treating them in the early days will maximise results.

A higher level of the stress hormone cortisol has been linked to stretch marks as cortisol reduces the amount of collagen present in the body.

How can I prevent stretch marks from happening?

Prevention is better than cure, keeping weight balanced will help to prevent stretch marks and applying a good body oil such as Bio oil when pregnant will help to minimise any tears in the skin. A diet rich in oily fish, nuts and avocados will deliver omega 3 fatty acids to the skin to help to keep it supple from the inside. You can also take an omega 3 supplement.

What can help to treat stretch marks?

It isn’t possible to full treat stretch marks but you can dramatically reduce their appearance. Collagen Shots gives the body all the amino acid peptides that the body needs in the fight to repair damage caused by loss of elasticity and help to heal the dermis. Expect the process to take at least 3 months before you see an improvement.

Certain beauty treatments can also help to soften the look of stretch marks, the heat energy from IPL (intense pulsed light) and laser systems can help to stimulate new collagen fibres.

The same is true of Dermagen, a techniques used by Marie Reynolds in her treatments to soften and smooth the skin.
