How can I reduce my jowls without surgery? Watch Danielle Collins facial yoga video

Collagen, Body

“How can I reduce my jowls?” is probably the most frequently asked question in clinic and also online. The dreaded gravity tends to come into play from the early 30’s. If you are 30 plus I tend to think at some time we have all pulled our face back a little to see what difference a face lift would make.

Even the gorgeous Sharon Stone has said she wished she could sleep upside down to correct the effects of gravity. You may want to go down the surgical route but there are some great tips you can take to slim and firm your jaw line. I’d definitely recommend that you give them a try before you book in to go under the knife.

Non surgical treatment for sagging jowls

Here’s how to help get rid of sagging jowls:

Facial exercises

On the internet you will find an abundance of facial exercise videos. Danielle Collins is a yoga specialist and has created DVD’s. The secret is to be consistent and know that you need to do them daily for 6 weeks before you really see results. Here she shares a video to help improve your jaw line.

Try these facial exercises to help improve jowls:

  1. Make an ‘O’ shape with your mouth and wrap your lips around the teeth. Now move from the O shape to a smile shape. Keep repeating.
  2. Hold a smile shape with the lips wrapping your teeth. Place your index finger on the chin for resistance. Now scoop the jaw backwards.
  3. Take 2 fingers and a thumb and pinch all the way up the jaw area to release tension. Pinch into the muscle instead of pulling outwards.

Micro and nano current

Traditional micro current uses electrical pulses to stimulate muscle contraction to firm and tighten muscles.

New technology uses nano currents, which gives amazing lift but is totally pain free and non-invasive. The treatment delivers proven overall skin health results and works by using tiny wavelengths that they can’t be felt, to re-energise the cells in the face and neck.

It stimulates ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) in cells giving improved hydration, circulation and lymphatic drainage. The process aids collagen and visibly improves the complexion.

A course of 10 initial treatments is recommended.

Radio frequency

If you’re looking for ways to tighten your skin without the extended healing time, pain, and expense of cosmetic surgery, you may want to consider radio frequency skin tightening. Radio frequency is a non-invasive procedure that’s clinically proven to help smooth and tighten sagging skin for an overall younger looking appearance, by stimulating natural renewal of collagen the treatment delivers natural looking results with little to no downtime.

The radio waves heat up water molecules in the skin to stimulate the fibroblasts which in turn stimulate collagen formation.

Treatments for jowls sagging are typically taken at 10-14 day intervals and results are accumulative, expect to see improvements for up to 6 months afterwards. Additional maintenance can be carried out with 1 – 2 sessions every 6 months.

What are PDO threads?

Surgical threads made of soluble PDO (polydioxanonea), are used to improve skin elasticity. Research carried out after surgical procedures has shown that PDO stimulates the production of new collagen in the skin, the synthesis of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, both of which are vital for keeping the skin looking plump and youthful.

The PDO thread is inserted into the skin through a very fine needle or cannula. An improvement can be seen immediately, however, the results will improve in the following days and weeks as the PDO stimulates neocollagenesis, which in turn produces collagen. The threads naturally dissolve into the body after around 8 months, however the results can be seen for up to 2 years.
