7 Essential tips to have you summer ready
Here in the UK the weather is teasing us into thinking that this might be the year that we get a wonderful summer. Whether you have plans to head off to sunny climes or a Staycation in mind, it’s the perfect time to dust off the cobwebs, pull out your summer wardrobe and re boot.
How can I take care of my skin in the summer?
If you need a little motivation to get started, we have some tips to help you take care of summer season.
1. Exfoliate
Scrub away dry flaky skin, pay particular attention to feet, ankles, knees and elbows. You don’t have to spend a fortune, use a scrub of blended sea salt, lemon and almond oil to polish and nourish as you go.
Pay particular attention to bumps on the arms, keratosis pilaris, treat the red, goose-bumpy skin on your upper arms with gentle exfoliation and moisturiser. Remember be gentle on the face and use dedicated products.
2. Bathe in essential oils
Baths and showers can irritate and dry the skin. Use a gentle oil such as sweet almond oil with a few drops of essential oil such as lavender or rosemary oil.
3. Hydrate more
Have you noticed how skin can become red in summer and that your face may feel dry and tight. This is a good indication that you are dehydrated. Drinking more water is important and add H3O Hydration as the ionic electrolytes transfer water through the stomach wall and helps to balance fluid levels in the cells. It also helps to prevent swollen feet when travelling, check out our new Essential Travel Packs for hydrated travelling.
4. Erase cellulite
Start now to shape and tone your thighs, Collagen Shots and H3O Hydration work together to firm and hydrate connective tissue for a smoother appearance. Read our e book on 7 days to super skin (log in to your personal account to download), this has all the key foods that you need to firm skin all over the body. You’ll notice a difference within a month but for expect to see the best results after 3 months.
Start dry skin brushing every morning, use a natural bristle brush, start at the feet and brush in an upward motion to stimulate circulation and aid the elimination of toxins.
Epsom salt baths can also aid in the elimination of toxins, it is a great favourite of Elle McPherson. Add a cupful of Epsom salts to your bath 2 – 3 times per week.
5. Walk that extra mile
Start to tone by walking and doing light exercise. Get off the bus a couple of stops early or walk to pick up groceries instead of taking the car.
6. Treat your feet
There’s nothing like a good pedicure to get your feet sandal ready. If you can’t get to a salon for a little TLC give your feet a perk up while you sleep. Remove thicker skin with a foot file and apply a rich emollient cream or Vaseline, wrap feet in cling film and cotton socks. Leave over night and by morning you will have super smooth skin.
7. Time to tan
If I have to reveal then it’s time for a spray tan, I’m so pale that it would take weeks to get a good colour, so a spray tan is a great alternative. You don’t have to finish up with a bright orange hue, modern fake tans start with a light glow and you can pretty much choose the shade you want to be. For holidays I always invest in a professional spray tan but generally opt for a gradual product, there are dozens out there, just remember to exfoliate well first to get rid of any dry patches.
